Shibu's Kumbalam Puttu Kada

Shibu's Kumbalam Puttukada is a small eatery tucked along Boat Jetty Road in Kumbalam, Kochi. It operates during late-night hours and stays open until early morning, making it a popular spot for night owls and early risers alike. The shop offers both indoor and outdoor seating, with more than 20 seats available for dine-in customers. While there isn't a dedicated parking area, visitors can conveniently park along the roadside. In terms of ambience, it resembles a traditional old tea shop -- very simple and no-frills. However, its location offers a modest charm, with a partial view of the nearby lake and a church that adds a quiet, local touch to the setting. We tried a selection of the commonly recommended items -- puttu, beef curry, chicken fry, pappadam, mutta (egg), and kattan (black tea). Unfortunately, despite all the hype, the food tasted just average to us. Nothing really stood out in terms of flavor or uniqueness. That said, this is just our personal opinion -- taste can vary from person to person. I'd suggest giving it a try yourself and seeing how it matches your preferences. Overall, Shibu's is a good place to grab some food late at night and has an old-school vibe. But when it comes to the food, it didn't really live up to the hype. Thank you.

One of the oldest puttukada in Kumbalam which launched many more such puttukadas in the area Located in a lane adjacent to the church/ post office ( jetty road) Opens only by 830 pm and stays open all the way till early morning The ambience is poor- the neatness is below average The food - Puttu and beef are simply delicious. Chicken fry is also good.Boiled duck egg is also a popular item. Pair it with black tea. Don't go for any other item, though they have porotta, appam and pathiri on the menu Just have Puttu, beef,pappadam and black tea, the taste of which is worth the trouble .

Heard lot about this spot and once I experienced it's quite true in every aspect. Loved the putt beef combo and chicken fry was huge surprise for me. Classic style chicken fry must must try . Very tiny shop budget friendly and super taste.

Great spot for satisfying late-night food cravings! The food is spicy, flavorful, and packed with authentic local taste. I especially loved the puttu combos -- one of the best places to enjoy puttu and traditional flavors. Parking can be a bit tricky if you're coming by car, as you'll need to park on the roadside and walk a bit. However, if you're on a motorcycle, you can park right in front of the shop. Totally worth it for the taste and experience!

The food was good and other items too, we tried their puttu with beef, fish curry, mutton, chicken fry and pappadam. Not that much good, ok to have a traditional local restaurants.
