Mitra Cafe - Serampore

This outlet is located close to Serampore railway station, about 5 mins walk. Although it is a franchise of the original Mitra Cafe, but taste wise it is still miles apart. We had visited this place on Navami night and waiting time was around 30 mins. We had ordered fish diamond kabiraji, chicken cutlet, drums of heaven, mutton biryani, etc. The kabiraji was cooked well, but fry inside the kabiraji was burnt a little bit leading to a burnt taste - didn't like at all. Also the oil was not strained properly, too much oily in all their fried items. The mutton in the biryani was undercooked and a bit tough to chew. Overall this outlet is a mediocre version of the original outlet.

The Ambiance was really good. It gave an authentic bengali restaurant vibes. It's famous for Bengali dishes but we ordered some Chinese items and they were good too. Also everything was really affordable. Quality and quantity wise it was perfect too.

The fish fry, and mutton cutlet are cooked to perfection - crispy on the outside, juicy and flavorful inside. You can taste the heritage in every bite. The portion sizes are generous and reasonably priced, making it perfect for both solo and group visits. The ambiance is simple yet clean and welcoming, with a nostalgic vibe that adds charm. Service is quick and staff members are courteous and attentive. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy authentic Kolkata-style fast food in Shrirampur. It's not just a cafe, it's an experience.

I visited this restaurant yesterday for lunch with my parents and grandparents, hoping to treat them to authentic Bengali cuisine. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a complete disaster. I initially ordered 4 Sattik Veg Thalis, 4 Pabda Sorses, 1 Chicken Biryani, 1 Mutton Kosha, and beverages. They informed me they had only 3 plates of Pabda Sorse and that the biryani would be brought in from Kolkata. I was shocked to hear this at 1:30 p.m., but they clarified that the entire biryani pot comes from Kolkata and is not cooked on-site. As a result, I had to switch one order to Sorse Pomfret and cancel both the biryani and the mutton kosha. In the thali, the only dish my parents and grandparents enjoyed was the Shukto, which was made with ghee. The rest of the items were below average. The fish, in particular, was terrible -- it seemed stale, deep-fried, and served in curry. Paying 305 for that fish felt like a waste as it had no taste at all. In total, I spent around 3,400 including beverages, and the food quality was extremely disappointing. What I hoped would be a special treat for my family turned into a horrible experience. I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

* This is located in the serampore bazar area which is easily accessible by walking from the railway station. * I personally tried this outlet of Mitra cafe twice and I loved it. * Last time we tried Diamond Bhetki Fish fry which had fresh white Bhetki fish inside its crispy coating. In one word it's delicious. They served it with authentic Kasundi (Bengali mustard sauce). * The price for Bhetki Diamond fish fry is - 230/ piece which was justified by the taste and portion quantity. * The ambience and staff behaviour was good too.
