"Disappointing experience at South Tiffin in Mahavir Nagar. Most dishes had an unexpected sweetness, including the curd rice. Service was also subpar. Considering the name change to Gujarat Tiffin might be more fitting. Not recommended."

This is an air conditioned restaurant serving South Indian food, located near Kandivli metro station. While the taste of the food is good, the pricing is on the higher side for the decor and the ambience. Also, of late they have reduced the potion size. I consumed onion uttappa four months ago and again recently. The size of the uttappa has reduced in my last visit and it wasn't as filling as it was in my last visit. So, it's an additional price increase by the restaurant management. Also I noticed issues with their service. An item I ordered was also ordered by the person on the next table, some time after I ordered it. Surprisingly the next table was served the item first, and the manager had no response as to why this happened.
We ordered Sri Lankan medu vada curry! Definitely worth the try!! It has coconut milk curry. The second dish we ordered was Bisi bele rice! It was great. I'll order something else for the second time
If you're looking to dive into the rich and flavorful world of South Indian cuisine, a visit to a local South Indian tiffin restaurant is a must. These cozy spots offer an authentic experience, serving up traditional dishes that are simple, yet packed with bold, aromatic flavors. The menu usually features a wide array of options, with dishes like crispy dosas, soft idlis, and fluffy vadas leading the charge. The dosas, whether plain or filled with spiced potatoes, are always a hit -- crisp on the outside and delightfully soft on the inside, they pair perfectly with coconut chutney and tangy sambar. The idlis, steamed to perfection, are light and airy, and just melt in your mouth. Served with a variety of chutneys and a bowl of sambar, they make for a satisfying meal. One of the best things about these tiffin restaurants is their homestyle feel. The food is often freshly made, served piping hot, and comes in generous portions. The simple, no-frills decor and warm, friendly service add to the charm. The pace of service is quick, so it's perfect for anyone on the go, though the flavors linger long after your meal. Whether you're a regular or a first-timer, there's always something comforting about enjoying a traditional South Indian breakfast or lunch in a cozy, bustling tiffin joint. The prices are typically reasonable too, making it an affordable option for a delicious and satisfying meal. If you're in the mood for comfort food that feels like a warm hug in every bite, this type of restaurant never disappoints.
Tried the Mysore Masala Dosa and buttermilk here--both were amazing! The dosa was crispy with perfectly spiced filling, and the buttermilk was refreshing. Great taste and quick service overall!
