Having lunch at the Bombay Hotel used to be one of my favorite things to do when I visited Payyannur years ago. It was always busy and the food was delicious. However, now there's little crowd, and the food has become average. They charge 120 rupees and claim it's a special meal, but there's nothing particularly special about it. Other hotels offer meals for 80 or 90 rupees, making it quite expensive in comparison. One unique aspect of this place is that it's the only restaurant where you can get raw rice meals, as far as I know. On the plus side, the service is good.
We reached there exactly at lunch time, we were planning to eat dosa, but they told only rice is available at this hour of day, price was good and full vegetarian, we ate "SADHYA" it was served in banana leaf, and taste was good. Payasam rasam curd was there also we got option to choose between the thin rice or kerala rice. Serving was super fast.
The people who sit at the cash counter don't talk nicely in this hotel, uncle, I have been coming to Kerala from Mumbai for seven years, but this time I went to their hotel to eat, and as I was paying, I got a call from my office, so I picked it up to talk, then uncle said put the phone down. Then talk, do you talk like this to people who come from the bar at your place, which uncle was the chief minister of Kerala who told me to put the phone down, never be arrogant in life, today this hotel is running, later such days may come that not even a single coster comes, it does not take time for time to change
We visited this place today. It's a small join in the heart of Payyannur town. The masala dosa, Aloo puri, and tea were really tasty. We will definitely visit again :)
