S K Tiffin Room

Had a lovely breakfast at SK Tiffin Room! Started with the idly - super soft and just melts in your mouth. The tomato bath and lemon rice were both full of flavour and really hit the spot. I wanted to try the dosa too, but there was quite a bit of waiting time, so had to skip it this time. Still, the overall experience was great - tasty food and a satisfying start to the day!

If you worry about sitting on the kerbside eating your breakfast or jostling with the crowd to get your share, don't read any further. This is not your type of place. The door opens around 0830 and you just run into the place and ascertain your presence at the counter. The gentleman behind patiently asks your choice and gives his suggestion. The dosa gets doled out after about 20 minutes of opening. Meanwhile you slurp on the not so spicy chutney topped with a bit of saagu on your idlis or the signature tomato baath. There is chitranna too which we could not try as we were full. The mini masala dosa is crispy on the outside with soft inner side which has a slight viscous palya. Prices are decent for the quality and quantity given. Parking is oh so difficult for 2W too as it is a small lane in which you get space if you are an early bird. This place is recommended if you have patience to wait. And it is on my go to list from now on.

Tomato Bath - 6.5/10 (8.5/10, if disregarding hygiene) Masala Dosa - 5.25/10 (7.25/10, if disregarding hygiene) Bath Masala Dosa - 5/10 **Points deducted due to the poor hygiene. Noticed a few cockroaches roaming around. Place needs to be shut down and looked into.** Tomato bath was excellent! Masala dosa was crispy and good Tried the bath masala for the heck of it. The rice in it did taste really good. However having it with dosa absolutely spoiled the taste. Even on weekdays there is a good crowd. So be prepared to wait a bit yo receive the dosa.

Just brilliant! A difficult place to find but if you do find it, you will be rewarded with one of the best dosas you'll ever eat! It's a small place, a few stools if you'd like to be seated. We were told that it's a 30 mins wait and that only Masala Dosa is available. The dosa was absolutely worth the wait! Extra roasted, soft in some areas, crispy in some, flavourful batter, ticking all the boxes for a perfect dosa. The Palya is spicy and the chutney served along with it is even more spicy. On request, I got a plain dosa without any chutney or Palya and it was again, amazing. The owner serves the food himself, he's patient, efficient and courteous. It's fascinating that such places exist in the tight bylanes of busy market areas, which not too many people know about. The restaurant regulars and locals in the area don't advertise about these places, neither does the the restaurant, owing to which these places remain a secret, maintaining it's sanity and quality. But, it's too good to not talk about and would highly suggest you try this place!

Tried the tomato bath here after hearing a lot of hype, but honestly it didn't live up to the expectations. The place didn't have dosa or other usual tiffin items - only chitranna (lemon rice) and tomato rice were available. The tomato bath was okay, but nothing special. Overall, the experience was average and definitely not worth all the hype.
