Shaanbaag was like the ultimate symbol of luxury during my childhood. I remember sitting in that air-conditioned room, feeling like I was in a 5-star restaurant, enjoying my food while watching my mama devour a samosa having red Baji. There was only two places where such delicious Samosa we used to get one near Deendayal and other Shaanbaag some 2 decade back. Damn I am growing old. Oh, the excitement! It was always such a treat to eat there. Whenever we went out, Shaanbaag was our go-to spot. I can still picture my father, taking us three kids and my mom on his Kinetic ZX scooter. I'd stand at the front, pretending to drive, as we eagerly headed to our favorite restaurant. My mom was an amazing cook, so dining out was a rare occasion. But Shaanbaag was one place we always made an exception for. I even remember one time when my mama picked me up from school and took me straight to Shaanbaag for a meal. And yes, I had that famous samosa too. It was all so delicious, and the memories came flooding back. Shaanbaag will always hold a special place in my heart. The restaurant was located on a narrow road, and when we got our Zen, parking became a bit of a headache. If we parked on the other side, we'd be surrounded by other restaurants, so we usually tried to avoid that too. But still, as a child, I thought of Shaanbaag as the ultimate luxury spot, and I always dreamed of visiting it again once we moved to Porvorim. One day, my sister and I finally decided to go back. Unfortunately, the AC room was packed, so we had to sit outside. But trust me, the outdoor seating was more "daba" than "deluxe," and all my childhood visions of luxury were shattered in an instant. The service was terrible. It felt like we were invisible to the staff, and nobody was even taking our orders. Meanwhile, a group of kids were running around, and the owner was busy chatting with them while the staff seemed completely uninterested. After a long while of awkwardly staring at them, hoping they'd notice us, we finally managed to place an order. But guess what? They got it wrong. It was beyond frustrating. Still, that samosa... Oh, it was as delicious as I remembered. The food here is still top-notch, but the experience? Well, let's just say it wasn't what I had hoped for. All those childhood memories of Shaanbaag got a little ruined that day. But hey, the food was great, so at least it wasn't a total loss!
